Research-Music video ideas

I'm really annoyed seeing as I had a good idea about animation I saw the Weetabix advert on the TV this morning and am really irritated that thy have literally had the same idea as what I wanted to do for my film.

After looking at U2 performance at Glastonbury I’m actually more inspired to create a performance video rather than a video with a narrative or even a stop motion animation. I think I need to include lots of different people to develop my filming skills and as I’m working on my own I’m going to need to work extra hard to direct and film the characters successfully. I do like the idea of a stop motion animation but I want to make something more realistic and something that I can have fun with editing on Final Cut. I’m going to start looking at music videos that I personally like and see what genre I want to focus on.

U2 at glastonbury

This video is at Glastonbury 2011 it is a performance filmed by the BBC. The BBC use precise camera work to give the audience the ‘there’ experience. By enabling the audience to see such a variety of shots makes you as a viewer feel superior as you have a better view of the band, but are still on in the experience.

The establishing shot is an extreme high long angle shot that allows the viewing audience at home an insight to the scale and atmosphere at the festival. This shot is followed by low angles which give a dominant view of the band. The perspective is like the viewers are watching at a height they would be at if they were there themselves in the audience. The band are introduced independently the shots are stylized to the tempo of the music which makes the appearance of the footage more professional. The framing of the shots is significant Bono the lead singer gets a centre of the frame because he is the front man, and has more screen time.
Overall the viewers at home are satisfied as the BBC has covered all elements of a successful performance, there are the long shots covering the mass of the festival there are the close ups of the people having fun there are shots of the band individually and as a group the BBC have brought the festival into the living room.

Research- Music that I like

Rather than researching current music videos on the charts I have started to research into music videos that I like. That way I find it more interesting to study in depth and not get bored.
By me choosing songs that I like will allow me to be easy inspired and also know what the song is about and already know the lyrics and the music videos very well.

Research- Stop Motion Animation

First thoughts on my A2 Production I really like the idea of setting myself a challenge and focus on a Stop Motion Animation. It would be quite unique and it would allow me to work solo and not have to rely on other people in my music video.
I Prefer the Lego Animations as it look quite easy to make them move in stages as they are a rigid and the movement on lego characters is quite stiff. I have access to a lot of lego as my young family friend is obsessed and would love to get involved in the production.

The only doubt I have is that it wouldnt really fit into a genre and it might be quite boring as a music video and I might struggle to keep the audiences attention but for example there was a music video by Junior Senior and that was mainly cartoon.

Starting A2 Music Video Project

Introduction
This blog is going to be a documented diary of progression of my A2 media production. This year the brief is to make a music video to a track of our own choice. There will be a range of ancillary tasks post production like a digi-pak. I plan to make a poster and a CD. I am working alone for this project as I feel I’m freer to make any choices or changes. This year I would have preferred to work with someone else but due to an equal number and other people working alone I am too.

Last year I made an opening sequence to a film. Last year my locations were fantastic but the quality of film wasn’t. This time round my personal target is to work with people within my school and a location in school so I can easily get there and if anything needs to be re-filmed there won’t be too much hassle. I wanted to include people from other years in my music video to give the video a variety of a characters and set myself the task of working with new people.
